Minimalist Style - How to place Rugs

1 February 2021

Minimalist design style can be described by utilising clean shapes, lines and textures in a conservative way to create a calming atmosphere that brings the mind and soul back to basics.

When designing a minimalistic setting choose light and soft colours and furniture with clean lines. Choose a rug with similar tones of colour as the rest of your interior to create a sense of unity. Avoid strong patterns and bold busy designs and colours. When designing a space with soft/no colour, create interest by highlighting and playing with different textures, this where you can have some fun with your rug.

Your room layout and furniture will determine the rug size and shape you need. A rule of thumb is the bigger the lounge and the bigger the space > The bigger your rug needs to be! Placing a smaller sized rug in a large space can often make your room feel cluttered and smaller - this goes against the ethos of minimalist design! Also, place your rug a minimum third-under your furniture; this will help to unite the separate elements in the space and make it feel harmonious.

Minimalist design enables us a chance to create a sense of zen in our own space. A well placed and well proportioned rug will bring your space together and unite our mind, body, soul & home.
