5 Ways to Bring Your Hallway to Life

4 July 2017

If you think that hallways are an awkward space to design, you’re not alone. Hallways are the path to your home and are the first rooms visitors see, giving them a glimpse into your style and personality. First impressions count but sadly hallways are often overlooked. Here are five easy ways to bring yours to life.

1 . Make it practical.

Having a side table for your keys or a narrow bench to take off your shoes, a coat rack or umbrella stand are all practical ideas without taking up too much space. In small apartments and homes, it’s not abnormal to see bicycles, bags and shoes in the hallway but it really depends on the size of yours and how you want to use your space.

2. Get arty!

No space is complete without art. Choose a large statement piece or opt for a more eclectic look with a photo gallery to inject personality into your hallway without taking up any space.

3. Be bold.

Don’t be afraid to use colour or pattern. Unlike the rest of your home, hallways aren’t places you linger in long so you don’t have to stick with neutrals if you don’t want to! Colour plays a large part in creating mood like darker tones for drama or bright pops against white for something playful. There are no rules but if you want a cohesive look, stick to the same colour palette as the rest of your home.

4. And then there was light.

Hang a mirror to give an illusion that your hallway is larger than it is. It will bounce light around the hall making your space appear lighter and brighter.

5. Rug up.

Red Verde runner brightens up this hallway by Abbode Interior Products

Brighten up your hallway with one of our runners completely customised to suit your space! One tip is if you have a long hallway and want to detract from it, avoid using stripes as it emphasises the length. Instead opt for designs with squares and trellises or even solid colours to help break up the length. Alternatively, if you want to make your hallway appear longer, stripes are the way to go.
