Hamptons Style

11 January 2021

The Hamptons style has been around for sometime and is always adapting to meet current design and architectural trends. Developers are leaning into this style to create spaces with a sense of luxury, higher American-style ceilings and extra wide openings to replicate this spacious and breezy style. Designers are also using this style to brighten existing spaces, think of light textures, bright walls and soft palettes which work well in Australia homes. With a combination of large windows and a variety of timber finishes Australian homes definitely lend themselves to Hamptons styling.

The Hamptons style is a great way to layer soft neutral shades while also being able to play with pattern. Although lots of colour isn’t in the forefront of Hamptons styling, laying blue certainly is. From navy to dove, laying blues is a fundamental of traditional Hamptons design, often best introduced through artwork, rugs and cushions. Traditional patterns such as trellis and floral designs are clashed by the design savvy, adding depth to this clean-slate design style, contrasting crisp lines with the spaces neutral backing.

As all things vintage, rattan and boho have come back into fashion in recent times, many designers have adapted elements of Boho design and worked them into their Hamptons spaces. From woven drink trays, woven pendant lighting to jute rugs, these styles work in harmony together due to their fresh palettes, showing that Hamptons style is one that’s easily adaptable into any space or time.
